FASHION PHOTO SHOOT
These photos are well over a year old now, taken as my first ever photo shoot while studying photography last year. I thought it was worth posting as I was pleased with them at the time whilst using a brand new camera. I originally planned to shoot this during the day but we got held up with rain and ended up going at it into 10 at night and shooting in the dark was something I hadn't come across yet. I tried to find areas with street lighting to help me out a bit and I had no tripod so getting sharp images was a challenge. I think it panned out pretty well with my models dark clothes reflecting the nightlife feel.
I based the photos on Helmut Newton, a fashion photographer, but I didn't want a 'pretty' feel like that in Newtons photos. I set out to capture the local area at night in a not so glamorous way by shooting in grimy and unpleasant areas such as car parks and alley ways. From doing these night shots, shadow was a major part of getting the photos to look good. Last year, shadow wasn't a huge deal to me since I didn't realise its importance but looking at the photos now, they really make the photos, especially the first one with the light coming through the railings.
The photos I posted are my best 4 from a pretty limited shoot as many came out either too blurry or dark.
